What Happened to Hunter Johnson?
The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded at approximately 12:06 a.m. on August 31 to a reported shooting at a home in the 100 block of South Commercial Avenue in Sedgwick.
First responders found Johnson suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Sedgwick EMS pronounced him dead at the scene.
Investigators said several teenagers had been gathered at the home when the shooting occurred. Johnson and the suspected shooter were not related. The sheriff’s office later said the investigation indicated that the shooting followed a verbal exchange between the two.
A 16-year-old Valley Center boy was taken into custody. He was later charged with first-degree murder and other firearm-related offenses. Because the case involves a juvenile defendant, legal proceedings and charging details remain subject to the applicable juvenile process.
